MEMV Metal relax with vibration

Already decades ago, it was proposed that in the metal by the machining caused by shaking or vibration of the workpiece. For this purpose the workpiece is placed on a vibrating table or by means of a mounted vibrating device shaken or vibrated. This can take about 5 to 30 minutes. For larger and heavier workpieces were also important longer vibrational times are known, which is, however, different reasons. When vibrating, the residual stresses over the whole workpiece, so not only on the surface. The workpiece can be further processed. Of the tension release is the strongest at the beginning of vibration, however, effectiveness then flattens quickly. This procedure is often connected with several unknowns and requires some and knowledge or appropriate guidance. Although it has numerous advantages compared to the heat dissipation, namely low time and energy expenditure, avoiding heat distortion and of scale contamination of the workpiece, the use of the vibration relaxation often spared.


There are three types of residual stresses. The self-tensioning of the first kind is macroscopic and is produced thermally by the edge and the core of a workpiece after appropriate heating cool down quickly. With the residual stresses of the second kind comes by phase transformations or formation of excretions local microstructures. In the case of the residual stresses of the third kind dislocations are surrounded by a stress field.


A prerequisite for the proven and successful shape stabilization by vibration is a reduction of the macroscopic residual stresses in the workpiece, that is, the stresses of the first kind requires at least a local crossing of the flow boundary, which is influenced by various factors. They are called high residual stresses, which are superimposed by rectified load voltages or local excesses of load and residual stresses through notches, cracks or flaws.
